LIFE HACKS | COCONUT OIL

Monday, 4 May 2015
In the past few weeks I have been reading up about coconut oil and all the different ways that you can use it; ever since finding out, I have been lusting after a pot for a while now so I picked up this one from Boots and I wanted to write about all the different things that you can do with it as it is very versatile.
First of all, coconut oil is FAB for your hair. You can use it as a hair mask and because it doesn't have any added nasties then it is definitely a lot better for your hair than most other products. I've also read online somewhere that you can use it as a frizz fighter and a flyaway tamer. Get a little bit of the oil and rub it in between your fingers to heat it up and melt it a little, then rub onto the lengths of your hair.
Next, I have used it as a makeup remover. I didn't think I was EVER going to find a replacement for my Garnier Miceller water, but now, I have coconut oil. Again, get a little bit on your finger tips and heat it up by rubbing between your fingers and then rub all over your face. Your make-up will however go all over your face but simply take a cotton pad to remove. Coconut oil also doubles up as a face mask and also a moisturiser too! After two days of using the oil, I have already noticed a difference in my skin and I believe it's because I am soaking up all the goodness from the oil without any added extras. You can also use it as a lip balm and also as shaving cream!
Thirdly, is you can use it for cooking! I haven't actually tried this one out yet however I have seen many different recipes for a variety of dishes (Asian cuisine seem to love the stuff!)
This one is a tip which I learned from Youtuber Kiera Rose, which is: using the oil as a tattoo brightener. I have tried this tip out and it works really well. I have a tattoo which I got two years ago and has become quite faded (due to bad artist - read here for more info) and the coconut oil has even helped with that!
Next up is using it to clean your makeup brushes. Another one which I haven't personally tried but have seen a lot of people do and they seem to think it works really effectively.
And finally, a tip which isn't really beauty related.... or humans... Apparently, you can use coconut oil to cut down the amount of hair balls your cat produces by applying a small amount to their paws. I'm not really sure how this works or how effective it is but I don't have a cat to try it out on!
In conclusion, coconut oil is a very versatile product and is definitely going to become a staple in my household for a variety of different reasons! Let me know in the comments if you have tried coconut oil along with what for!
